Al's Pals Released

Well, it's finally done! How many years has it been? 20? The new BluesPages release, Al's Pals, brings together an eclectic mix of original music by Alan Craig, Charlie Morris, Devin Rice, Ross Rice and many other pals. The pals have been involved in several bands over the years including Lotus, Full House, and the St Pete Mountain Boys. Dave Bawel and Shane Rice also contributed tunes to the CD. Other musicians include Jim Beckwith, Lori Cherry, Dean Germain, Jeff Martin, Dave Whiteside, and Alan Whitman.

The songs defy any categorization. Maggie Magee and Queen of Scandinavia are funky-reggaeish rockers in the style that only the Ross Rice touch can create. Nevada is an atmospheric acoustic piece. Mos' Boss is a bizarre reggae-style social commentary that turns out to be just as topical today as it was when it was written (20 years ago).

Panda-monium!

Alan Craig has been haunting Panda Studio in Clearwater, living on clamshells and beer. After wrapping up Al's Pals, he's wasting no time, starting in on a new CD that features Ross Rice, Dave Reinhart and several other musical luminaries.

Chuck has finished What A Scene! the new Charlie Morris Band live CD. It will be released in April (the party's at the Ka-Tiki, April 25!). He's also in the middle of a solo project, featuring a dozen new acoustic tunes, that will see the light of day sometime in 2008.

It's always lots of fun hanging out at Panda. You never know who might stop in, from famous rock stars to little weasels. Chuck has acquired yet another nickname, "The Fabulous Sea Otter of the Blues," thanks to his fondness for "ottering" with the nifty little things that lie around in tottering heaps all over the studio. George's new moniker is "The Clam Buster," for his skill at fixing even the most em-bare-assing performance errors on recordings.

In between tracking, mixing and sampling the finest local lunch spots, the gentlemen find time for some earnest conversation, and have come up with some fascinating revelations. Just this week, Charlie and George formulated an all-encompassing explanation of everything. This simple theory explains the nature of the universe, the relationship between time and space, and most of the mysteries of human existence. They also came up with a nifty idea for a new chain of themed restaurants!
